Jessica and Nathaniel, Week 7

Paper layers

This week we're really starting to see our forms and media come together in new ways, and simultaneously recognizing how different this show is from the last one. Jessica has treated most of the prints with acrylic for translucency, and Nathaniel has touched up video stills for archival inkjet printing, to make the first of our layered paper prints - what some call 'tradigital,' in that they combine traditional and digital print media. We're very excited about how these are turning out, and about our different ideas for framing the two sheets together in each combination. Three of the four layered matrices we're working on are below. In our tests, we learned that the fourth digital print didn't show up quite enough behind our lithograph; it needs some teasing out of details, some dodging and burning, some highlighting and deepening of contrasts in PhotoShop - which Nathaniel continues to work on.

Coming next week: mounting prints to screens, putting them into frames, and setting up a meeting with catalog essayist Richard Grusin, to discuss the work!
